In line with firesmoke.ca, smoke from wildfires burning in northern Alberta and the Northwest Territories has moved into the area.
Environment and Climate Change Canada has issued a special air quality statement.
Article content
“People with lung disease (such as asthma) or heart disease, older adults, children, pregnant people, and people who work outdoors are at higher risk of experiencing health effects caused by wildfire smoke.”
Edmontonians are advised to keep their indoor air clean by keeping doors and windows shut if the temperature inside is comfortable and to use an air purifier with a High Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) filter in a room where you spend a lot of time.
Right now the Air Quality Health Index sits at a 7 out of 10 in Edmonton, or high risk.
The smoke is expected to begin to dissipate Friday evening and clearer air is expected as we head into the long weekend.
